Gilgit- Hundreds of thousands of Ismaili community had the opportunity to have ‘Deedar’ of their spiritual leader Prince Karim Aga Khan, Shah Karim in Chitral and Gilgit areas on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
On Saturday, His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan left Islamabad to Chitral where he gave ‘Dardar’ to Ismaili community at two places in Booni and Garam Chashma. His Highness stayed in Chitral on Saturday. In the morning of Sunday, His Highness reached in Gilgit by his charter flight, where he was warmly received by Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman, his cabinet members, government officials and leadership of Ismaili Council at the airport. Later, His Highness first reached to Taus Yasin, to the address a huge congregation of Ismaili community, who gathered there from across the Ghizer district including Punyal, Ishkoman and different parts of Gupis subdivision. Later, His Highness left for Aliabad Hunza to address another gathering of Ismaili community from Gilgit, Gujal and Hunza regions.
Despite huge gathering and extensive movement of the people, all the activities were held in a peaceful environment amid tight security measures and special arrangements by respective governments as well as Ismaili Council.
Other community in Gilgit and Chitral also demonstrated an exemplary discipline and harmony to welcome His Highness to this part of world to express the brotherhood with Ismaili community. Both Shia and Sunni community while welcoming His Highness, displayed special banners and portrayed at different areas in Chitral and Gilgit areas besides making available their transport and other logistic to facilitate the movement of jamaat in reaching to their destinations.
His Highness Prince Karim Aga is in Pakistan on a two-week long official tour on the invitation of government of Pakistan to mark Diamond Jubilee celebrations of his 60th Immamat. Prince Karim Aga Khan will also celebrate his birth day in Pakistan on December 13. After his return from Northern ArHIA of eas, His Highness will also address his community in Islamabad and Karachi in coming week.
Prince Karim Aga Khan had paid his first visit to Gilgit and Chitral back in 1960 after enthroning the 49th Imam of Ismaili community following Sir Sultan Muhammad Shah Aga Khan, the 48th Imam of Ismaili community. Since then Prince Karim Aga Khan has established different institutions and launched numerous development projects to uplift the socio-economic standard of the people, which had a significant impact on the lives of people in these far flung areas including in health, education, culture and infrastructure development. His Highness’s vision and development initiatives for these areas through Aga Khan Development Network proved to be instrumental to enhance the living standards of people and the beneficiary from the services are people from all the sects irrespective of their affiliation, which is also admired by the people from across the board.
